Born in Bay City, Michigan, USA. Madonna is an American - Italian singer, songwriter, dancer and actress. She was born as Madonna Louise Ciccone august 16, 1958. Between 1985 - 1989 Madonna was marrried to Sean Penn. Since december 22, 2000 is she married to the Brittish director Guy Ritchie with whom she has the son Rocco, born on august 11, 2000. Madonna also have a daughter together with Carlos Leon, born october 14, 1996. Together with her husband Guy Ritchie, Madonna are for the moment under a law process for adoption of the Malawi boy David Banda. Madonna has taken the full name after her husband as Madonna Louise Ciccone Ritchie.
The name Madonna comes from the Italian word, of course connected with the Holy Mother Mary. Madonnas mother who died at the age of 30 when Madonna was only 5 years old was baptised Madonna Fortin, where as Madonnas name now has this connection. The father Silvio Ciccone, hired a maid after his wifes death, with whom he later married. He let all the children take pianolessons, but Madonna rather danced, that led to her stipendium in dance to University of Michigan. After one term she left college for going to New York saerching for her luck to become a dancer.
She searched her way through at musicals and other jobs, meanwhile her tentacels reached out in auditions and connections in the buissness as a whole. Finally she was offered a contract to go to Paris, in line becoming a pop star, by some French producers. After a while she still returned to her beloved New York where she played the drums in a band called The Breakfast Club. In the band was Stephen Bray with whom she did several demo recordings and with whom she during her whole career has cooperated with a lot. She got contract with Sire records and released a debutealbum with hitsingles like Lucky Star, Borderline and Holiday.
The first number one hit in US was Crazy for you. 1984 came Like a Virgin. This was the album that made Madonna a world famous star. Madonna did use the video as her media very early ,and understood what ways to use this media efficiently for exploring her fantastic music and talent. She is known for a constant rejuvination of her images and total artistery. She did films as Evitaand in connection to her world tourBlond ambition world tour1990, she released the documentary Truth or dare- In bed with Madonna, this all in all made her to one of the 80's greatest pop icons.
During the years Madonna has searched for ”truths” from her upbringing in the Catholic Church to her entrance of studying the Jewish Kabbala since 1997. In that movement she let herself be baptised as Esther.
Madonnas popularity is astonishing and she have kept herself in the top foreground for more than 20 years, a reccord not held by many. She has released 20 albums and have had more than 70 singel hits up on the top lists all over the world.
Personally she is my greatest idol. The reason for this is not only her fantastic music and karismatic appearance but furthermore the feeling of vulnerability under the fasad or that she is sending the lot at the same time. My impression is that this soul is hurting and screaming lauder than many, but she is screaming in a beatiful and very attractive way. With her powerful strenght and hard discipline she is determined to continue her extremely successful career. Her beautiful looks in combination with her enourmous energy is crerating inspiration and feeling of hope and striving for each and everyone that takes her music and appearance to there hearts.
